What is a Whoodle?

The Whoodle is a cross between a Poodle and a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. They are very friendly, playful, and affectionate. They are very intelligent and trainable. The ultimate and highly favorite of all “Doodles” are very affectionate and are affectionately called the “Teddy Bear Oodle.” Oodles = Designer dogs created with one of the parent breeds being poodles.

Tell us about your breeding program:

We are Whoodle breeders in Northern Wyoming. We were very selective in obtaining our sire and damsels. Our dogs are all AKC registered Poodle (sire) and Wheatens (damsels). Our breeding parents are constantly health-checked and our puppies are raised with great care and love. Are Whoodles good pets for those who suffer from allergies?

NON-SHEDDING, HYPOALLERGENIC
Whoodles truly are Hypoallergenic as BOTH parent’s breeds are. They really are Non-Shedding as BOTH parents’ breeds are. Many mixed “oodle” breeds claim these things, Whoodles truly ARE! They make an excellent choice for families with allergies and leaving very little hair makes home life much cleaner.

What size/weight of adult dog do Whoodles grow up to be?

SIZE Height and Weight
Our dogs are bred from the Moyen size poodle (20 inches) and Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier (17 inches) Puppies should mature in this range also. Most will fall in the 25-32 pound range.

What are the Whoodle’s coats of fur like?

COAT, TEXTURE, and COLOR
Coat types will range from loose wavy to shaggy curly. Wheatens tend to be soft and straight, whereas poodles are more curled and tight. The mix is a combination Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers are light-colored wheaten, almost white. Our Poodle has Merle, Sable, Phantom, Parti, Reds, and Blacks in his close parentage. We should expect many different colors from the cross.

What is the Whoodle’s temperament like?

TEMPERAMENT
This cross is a winner! They are very family-friendly. They are fun, and loving, and do particularly well with children. They are also playful and smart.

How much grooming and exercise do Whoodles need?

GROOMING – EXERCISE
As this is a non-shedding dog, the coat should be brushed, and spend time with a groomer once every 9-12 weeks. These dogs are not overly active, but they do like to play. They should be given daily exercise and playtime. They love large fenced yards and enjoy being part of the family.

Can you describe the Whoodle’s appearance?

APPEARANCE
They really do look like Teddy Bears. This comes from the blocky looks of The Wheaten Terrier. The coat is a combination of soft and wavy making a pet that is cuddly.

Are there health concerns a Whoodle owner should be concerned about?

HEALTH
The Wheaten Terrier was bred to be an outdoor, small farm dog. The Poodle was originally a hunting dog. Because of their heritage, they both are considered very sound and healthy breeds.
